Kuttanadan Duck curry - Christmas Special

Ingredients:-
Duck - 1 kg
Bowl - 1
Black Pepper - 1 tea spoon
Green chili - 4
Ginger - a small piece
Garlic - 3-4 cloves
Fennel seeds - 1/4 to 1/2 tea spoon
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 tablespoons
Cloves - 4-5

Vinegar - 1 tablespoon
Oil - 2 tablespoons
Cloves - 4-5
cardamom - 4
Star anise crushed - 1/2 or 1
Curry leaves - lots
Onion diced - 2 big
Green chillies - 7 slit lengthwise
Ginger finely chopped - an inch piece
Garlic finely chopped - 3-4 cloves
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Garam Masala powder - 1 tea spoon
Thin coconut milk- 1 cup
Whole black peppercorns - 1 tea spoon
Whole black peppercorns - 1 tea spoon
Thick coconut milk - 1/2 to 1 cup
Salt to taste
Salt to taste
Method
Wash and clean the duck and cut it into medium pieces.
Grind all the ingredients in Bowl 1 and marinate the duck pieces with it and keep in the fridge for 1-2 hours .
Pressure cook this for 3-4 whistles with just enough water or till done.
Lightly crush cloves , cardamom and star anise in a mortar and pestle .
Heat oil in a pan , saute onion followed by ginger , green chili and garlic till soft and have a flavor
Add turmeric and garam masala , mix well.
Add the duck pieces with liquid if any and add thin coconut milk. Simmer covered for 15 minutes.
Uncover add freshly crushed black pepper and let stand for another 10 minutes and remove
Goes well with Appam or Rice.

Duck curry aaa,its new to me .Have't tasted it Sarah....how it will taste .........but it looks same like chicken kolumbu method right....extra ingredient is vineyar .......
yeah it is some what similar to chicken curry ....but the tatse is dfntly different...

I know many people wont eat duck..But duck is something inevitable for us-People from Kuttanad in kerala...this is something we have in Abundance ,since we have lot of paddy fields..
Duck curry looks so delicious. Though I have never tatsed the duck curry, I have seen my grandma cooking it,who lives in Kerala.

bumped into your blog accidentally through someoneelse's blog; and thankfully I discovered I should say! you've got a wonderful collection of delicious recipes;
was going through some of my favourite labels, hummmm, your duck curry looks absolutely delicious;
Though I'm not from "kuttanadan", (from Pondicherry rather), I love to eat duck curry; Though so many of them are saying they're going to replace it with chicken, I'm sure they simply can't get the same taste; let me say they don't know what they're missing :) :)
